Southern California Gas Company is offering a rebate on qualified tankless water heaters. Customers can save up to $200 on models with an Energy Factor of 0.90 or higher. A minimum of 0.82 Energy Factor is required to qualify for a $150 rebate, and the tankless water heater must be replacing a tank-type water heater.

Tankless water heaters are more costly than typical water heaters, but they consume less energy in the long run. Households can save around $200 each year when using a tankless water heater. The units are also smaller than the typical storage tank water heaters.

Southern California Gas Company’s Tankless Water Heater Rebate started March 1, 2009. Applications for the program are provided by a licensed contractor or from the tankless water heater manufacturer. Fill out the rebate application form and mail it with a copy of the invoice to the manufacturer of the tankless water heater. For installations before said date, you can still avail the rebate as long as you have all the necessary paperwork.

An application is only valid through participating manufacturers and for qualified tankless water heater models. For a list of participating manufacturers, you can go to www.socalgas.com/twh/. For questions with regard to qualified models, you must contact the tankless water heater manufacturer.

In addition to the Tankless Water Heater Rebate program, Southern California Gas Company has other financing and tax credits programs that can help customers save more. For instance, people can avail the Home Energy Upgrade Financing Program. Under this program qualified customers can get a loan from $2500 to $20,000 to be used in the purchase and installation of energy-efficient upgrades such as water heaters, cooling systems, windows, ceilings and attics, insulation, roofing, pool/spa heater, insulated plantation shutters, and permanently installed natural gas barbeques.

Federal tax credits are also available for certain home improvements made between January 1, 2009, and December 31, 2009. Consult with your tax adviser for more information with regard to tax credits.
