Azusa Light & Water gives back to customers who have solar photovoltaic system installations, through their Solar Partnership Program.
In an effort to decrease the demand for conventional fossil fuel energy sources, Sunset Valley, Texas, offers a solar water heater rebate to residents that can be used to supplement Austin Energy’s rebate.
Residents must first apply and receive approval for the Austin Energy rebate before applying for the Sunset Valley rebate. Austin Energy offers rebates of $1500 to $2000 and a 30% tax credit of $750 to $1000 for a total net savings of $2250 to $3000.
To qualify for the Austin Energy rebate program, the applicant must be a current customer of the utility and the solar water heater must be certified by the Solar Rating Certification Corporation. Installations must have the required building permits, and the solar water heater must be installed by a licensed contractor. From the receipt date of application, the customer has 90 days to install the equipment.
The solar water heater must preheat water for an electric water heater that’s permanently installed at the residence. The manufacturer of the unit should give a minimum of a five-year warranty on all major components. The system must be designed for frost protection and scale elimination as well.
The solar water heater equipment must be new, but the use of existing tanks is allowed on a case-to-case basis. The tank itself must be less than five years old, and tanks over four years old must first be flushed before the system is activated.
Sunset Valley’s solar water heater rebate is at 30% of the total cost and installation cost of the installation of up to $2000. The rebates will be given after the solar water heater system has been installed and inspected. The rebates are on a first come, first serve basis. If you’re a Sunset Valley resident and are thinking of installing one in your home, act now before the funds run out.
