Green Mountain Energy customers with a renewable energy installation connected to the power grid are eligible for this buy-back program. Credits will be given for the excess energy produced and exported back to the power grid.

Under the Green Mountain Energy Renewable Buy-Back Program, any renewable energy system is eligible for the incentive. That means wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, hydroelectric, tidal and wave energy systems with a capacity of 25 kilowatts or less qualify for the program as long as they’re installed in a residence.

For the first 500 kWh of power given back each month, the credit rate will be the same as what Green Mountain Energy charges for its Renewable Rewards electricity product. In excess of 500 kWh, the rate will be 50% of the buy-back rate. The rebate will be exclusive of monthly service charges, applicable taxes, fees, TSDP advanced meter surcharges, and other fees or charges. The customer will retain ownership of any renewable energy credits (RECs) of the system or any other environmental attributes associated with the system.

To qualify for Green Mountain Energy Renewable Rewards Buy-Back Program, the applicant must already possess an Interconnection Agreement for the TDSP and must have a meter installed that measures out-flow and in-flow of electricity to and from the house. Lastly, the applicant must be enrolled in Green Mountain’s Renewable Rewards program.

Are there any electric companies on the east coast that offer the same buy-back program? I am looking at installing some type of solar system for our residence and apartments?

Thank you for the well written article
