The city of Sunset Valley, Texas, has several rebate programs that can help local homeowners improve the energy efficiency of their homes. It is the city’s effort to reduce the demand on fossil fuel based energy sources. The city is coordinating with Austin Energy with regard to its rebate programs.
Sunset Valley’s Solar Energy Conservation Program is available for residents who installed a solar system with at least one kilowatt capacity. The local rebate Sunset Valley provides supplements the rebate Austin Energy offers, which rebates $2.50 for every watt of energy generated through solar power, with a maximum of $15,000 per location. The maximum rebate for a residential solar energy system is pegged at $50,000.
Before residents can receive a rebate from Sunset Valley, they must first apply for the Austin Energy rebate and receive a letter of intent. Austin Energy will then conduct an on-site survey to determine whether the location is suitable for a solar panel installation. The solar power system must be interconnected with Austin Energy’s power grid.
To qualify for the rebate program, the roof must be in good condition and the solar panels should face south, although some east- or west- orientation is allowed. North-facing solar panels do not qualify for a rebate. A participating solar installer must install the panels. Lastly, it must pass a final inspection conducted by an Austin Energy representative.
Sunset Valley’s Solar Energy Conservation Program offer rebates of $0.75 per watt produced, with a maximum of $2250. Be sure to complete the application form properly and attach the required forms to apply for the program.
Sunset Valley has other rebate programs with regard to energy and water conservation, including the Washing Machine Program, Toilet Rebate, Rainwater Harvesting System, Electric Lawnmower, Irrigation Rain Sensors, Air Conditioner, Energy Star Refrigerators, Tankless Water Heaters, and Austin Energy On-line Home Energy Analysis.
