AGL, Someva Joint Venture: NSW Energy Park

AGL enters joint venture to develop energy park for NSW REZ

AGL and Someva Renewables Forge Partnership for Pottinger Energy Park, set to be situated within New South Wales’ South West Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). Pottinger Energy Park is slated to encompass a 1.2GW wind farm, 300MW solar farm, and a 500MW/2000MWh battery energy storage system.

Located approximately 60km south of Hay and 75km north of Deniliquin in New South Wales, the proposed park is in its early development stages, with initial community engagement and planning underway. Markus Brokhof, AGL’s Chief Operating Officer, expressed that the collaborative venture with Someva Renewables marks a significant stride in AGL’s renewable energy portfolio expansion as it progresses towards a sustainable future.

“We’re examining the prospect of a substantial wind, solar, and battery project at Pottinger Energy Park, aligning with our goal of adding 12GW of new renewable generation and firming capacity to our portfolio by 2035,” stated Mr Brokhof.

Solar energy is a type of renewable energy that converts sunlight into usable electricity, heat, or other energy forms. It’s a sustainable way to power our homes and businesses without harming the environment.

Jamie Chivers, Managing Director of Someva Renewables, highlighted the potential impact of Pottinger Energy Park in facilitating New South Wales’ energy transition while bolstering the region’s economy.

“As part of our co-design process, Someva has engaged with the local community for over two years, receiving encouraging support. We’re thrilled to collaborate with AGL on this endeavour and anticipate delivering a pioneering renewable energy project for New South Wales,” remarked Mr Chivers.

Someva Renewables, an Australian-owned renewable energy developer, is spearheading the design, community engagement, and regulatory approval process for Pottinger Energy Park. Pending approval, construction could commence in 2026, potentially generating up to 800 construction jobs and 60 ongoing positions upon operation.
